Consecutive interpreting
Consecutive interpreting is commonly preferred for occasions such as meetings, training sessions, press conferences or presentations. A speaker makes pauses in his/her speech needed for the interpreter to relay the message in the target language of the audience. Consecutive interpreting is performed by one interpreter per language.
Simultaneous interpreting
In simultaneous interpretation the translator translates simultaneously while the speaker is speaking. This interpretation is achieved using special equipment. Simultaneous interpretations are performed most of the time by a team of two interpreters who sit in a sound-proof booth.
Whispered interpreting, escort interpreting
Whispered interpreting is a type of simultaneous interpreting. The interpreter does not sit in a booth but is next to the listener and whispers the interpreted version into his or her ear.
Escort interpreting is a form of consecutive interpreting. This type of interpretation is commonly used for phone conversations but also for business meetings or trade fairs where the interpreter accompanies the clients to help them communicate throughout the course of the day and as they go about their business.
